In terms of the way it is done, Medical Strengthening Therapy (MST) for the cervical spine is similar to MST for the lumbar region. The stability of the cervical spine comes from small deep muscles located close to joints. When muscle tension is strong, there is less movement between individual vertebral joints and so less risk of ligament overload. Training increases muscle tension and so improves stability and restores equilibrium; it does this by influencing the forces associated with flexion and rotation and so prevents facet joint dysfunction. The tone (tension) of a trained muscle is much better than an untrained one!
The MedX therapy system is currently the only method capable of isolating muscles of the cervical spine, measuring them and providing intensive strengthening in accordance with objective and reproducible scientific criteria.
Each session is done on a one-to-one basis and is taken by specially trained therapists who have specialised in spinal stability.
