Based on 43 randomized controlled trials involving patients with chronic back pain, the Cochrane Group* published the following recommendation:

Successful therapy for chronic back pain should reduce pain and improve function. The treatment should include the following elements:

  1. Completion of an individually designed programme under supervision
  2. Stretching exercises
  3. Strengthening exercises

Medical Strengthening Therapy (MST) satisfies all three requirements. MST is a diagnostic procedure and treatment that uses strictly scientific criteria to identify functional deficits in individual muscles and works with standard, scientifically based therapy protocols that are both success-oriented and objective.
